Fue elevada a Arquidi\u00f3cesis el 14 de febrero de 1994 por el Papa San Juan Pablo II.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Su primer Obispo fue\u00a0Monse\u00f1or Hugo Eduardo Polanco Brito en 1953.Le sucedi\u00f3 Monse\u00f1or Roque Adames Rodr\u00edguez.
