SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, República Dominicana.- Abel Atahualpa Martínez Durán, alcalde de Santiago, ha recomendado al Gobierno que, antes de levantar una valla en la frontera con Haití, haga cumplir la ley de Migración, para sacar a los residentes de estatus irregular de la República Dominicana.
En un mensaje en su cuenta de Twitter, el funcionario municipal dijo que la primera tarea de las autoridades dominicanas, debe ser encarar la presencia masiva de haitianos en Santiago y en el país.
“Sería importantes que nuestras autoridades, que ya anunciaron la construcción de un muro en la frontera, estén más que claros: la primera tarea es ¡¡¡sacar del territorio a miles de haitianos ilegales y así cumplir con la Ley de Migración”, escribió el alcalde Martínez Durán, sobre la situación de los migrantes haitianos en territorio dominicano.
Desde su llegada a la administración municipal en agosto 2016, ha sido política de Abel Martínez perseguir a migrantes haitianos, de ahí que en múltiples ocasiones han sido denunciadas estas acciones del Gobierno local, como atropellos y violación a los derechos humanos.
Sobre estas situaciones se han difundido vídeos en los espacios de las redes sociales, donde se evidencia agresiones contra migrantes haitianos que suelen vender mercancías en las calles de Santiago
