El Ministerio Público de Santiago, representado por el fiscal titular, Osvaldo Bonilla Hiraldo, solicitará medidas de coerción ante un juez de la Oficina de Atención Permanente para las personas apresadas en los allanamientos efectuados este miércoles en la denominada Operación Discovery contra la estafa, extorsión sexual, económica y el robo de identidad.
Algunos de los apresados, según identificación de los fiscales, son Sucre Rafael Rodríguez Ortiz (Darimán y/o Daria), Máximo Miguel Mena Peña, Emmanuel Castro Ozuna (Billete), Mayobanex Braulio Rafael Rodríguez Fernández, Ángel Rafael Peralta Guzmán, Genaro Antonio Hernández Caba, Pablo Miguel Balbuena (Miguel Ortiz y/o la Válvula) y David Antonio Guzmán Javier.
Las autoridades estiman que la banda operaba en Santiago, Santo Domingo, La Vega y Puerto Plata en más de 10 centros de llamadas (call centers) dedicados al ciberdelito, a la extorsión sexual y económica, así como al robo de identidad de ciudadanos de Estados Unidos.
En los allanamientos, las autoridades informaron que hallaron evidencias de transacciones millonarias en dólares, siete pistolas y una metralleta Uzi, así como unos 400 mil dólares y más de 19.2 millones de pesos en efectivo, 30 vehículos de alta gama y 300 equipos electrónicos, incluyendo teléfonos móviles y computadoras.
El Ministerio Público resaltó que la Operación Discovery, que sigue en marcha, se realiza con la cooperación de agentes del Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) y de la Oficina de Investigaciones de Seguridad Nacional (HSI), quienes también realizaron allanamientos simultáneos en la ciudad de Nueva York, Estados Unidos.
Los apresados contra quienes solicitarían medida de coerción enfrentarían cargos por diversos delitos, incluyendo la violación a los artículos 59, 60, 258, 265 y 266 del Código Penal Dominicano, los cuales tipifican la complicidad, asociación de malhechores y la usurpación de funciones y el 405 que condena la “estafa”.
Además de violación a las disposiciones de los artículos 2, 4 de la Ley 155-17, sobre Lavado de Activos en perjuicio del Estado dominicano y 14 y 15 de la Ley 53-07, sobre Crímenes y Delitos de Alta Tecnología, que tipifican la obtención ilícita de fondos y la estafa a través de medios informáticos, telemáticos y de telecomunicaciones.
La Operación Discovery, desarrollada este miércoles por la Procuraduría General de la República, generó un movimiento inusual en el Palacio de Justicia de Santiago, desde donde se dirigieron varios operativos en varios puntos comerciales.
Las acciones de los operativos llamaron la atención por todo el movimiento registrado en los alrededores del Palacio de Justicia de Santiago, donde se vieron brigadas policiales todo el día.
