Falleció esta noche a los 82 años la exprimera dama Rosa Gómez de Mejía, la esposa del expresidente Hipólito Mejía y madre de la alcaldesa Carolina Mejía, víctima de un infarto que horas antes obligó a que fuera internada en un centro médico capitalino.

Doña Rosa nació en 1939 en Santiago de los Caballeros. Durante el mandato de su cónyuge, entre 2000 y 2004, privilegió su preocupación como primera dama en labores de educación, aprovechando la formación profesional que recibió en esa área en la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD).

Además del expresidente y la alcaldesa, le sobreviven a doña Rosa sus hijos Ramón Hipólito, Felipe y Lissa y sus nietos, a todos quienes se les vio visiblemente afectados en la clínica donde se confirmó el deceso.

El presidente Luis Abinader, que se encuentra en Costa Rica, fue informado del fallecimiento de doña Rosa y de inmediato publicó su pesar en la red social Twitter:
