Religiosos de la iglesia Católica y Evangélica se unieron a dirigentes comunitarios del distrito municipal Santiago Oeste (Cienfuegos) en una marcha (viacrucis) que efectuaron hoy para reclamar a las autoridades solución a los problemas generados por la inseguridad en esta demarcación.
En la caminata los activistas sociales del distrito municipal de Santiago Oeste, creado en 2018 (Ley 165-18), denunciaron que los hechos delictivos en esta zona van en aumento, sin que se vea una acción eficiente de las autoridades para intentar al menos aminorarlos.
Alegan que los moradores de las 66 comunidades o barrios que componen esta junta distrital tienen que formar grupos en la mañana, cuando salen hacia sus lugares de trabajo, para protegerse de los delincuentes que suelen aprovechar la oscuridad de las primeras horas del día.
Con frecuencia los residentes en esta zona denuncian atracos y tiroteos que ya han provocado la muerte de varias personas, algunos de estos ciudadanos baleados en sus propias casas.
Ante la situación, algunos dirigentes comunitarios han solicitado que el destacamento de la Policía Nacional sea convertido en un departamento o inspectoría para que se le asignen más recursos y de esta manera que los agentes patrulleros puedan encarar el problema.
“La comunidad de Santiago Oeste ha decidido una lucha, para bienestar de todos y todas, para el bienestar de las mismas autoridades, porque le estamos allanando el camino para combatir de manera efectiva la delincuencia”, dijo en la marcha el pastor evangélico Pablo Ureña.
Aseguró que la población está consciente de que este problema no se resuelve solo con la acción de la Policía ni con la construcción de muchos cuarteles, sino que hace falta otros aspectos que dependen de la sociedad y el seguimiento constantes de las autoridades.
El predicador agregó que la dotación de agentes es un problema que debe resolver el Gobierno, pero con uniformados que no maltraten a los ciudadanos, sino que los protejan.
“Más de 15 instituciones nos hemos congregado aquí, exigiendo a las autoridades competentes que se cumpla con la promesa de que nuestro destacamento sea elevado a departamento”, dijo a su vez el sacerdote católico Javier Báez, párroco de la iglesia San Marta de Santiago Oeste.
El activista social José Jáquez atribuyó el incremento delictivo a que la zona “es muy amplia y tiene muy pocos patrulleros en las calles”.
Jáquez sumó su voz a las de quienes consideran que la Policía de Santiago Oeste no puede depender del destacamento de un barrio vecino, sino que debe tener uno propio, que se aumenten los recursos y se tome las decisiones de manera directa contra la inseguridad ciudadana
